Common Questions

Common questions related to SUBTEL QR and public compliance requirements.

What is the SUBTEL QR code requirement?

SUBTEL requires specific telecommunications and electronic products sold or distributed in Chile to display a QR code or barcode. This code must link to a public webpage containing the required regulatory and compliance information for the product. The QR code ensures traceability and transparency, allowing consumers and authorities to verify the product’s compliance.

The QR code requirement applies to all telecommunications and electronic products sold in Chile, including but not limited to mobile phones, computers, consumer electronics, and other wireless devices. Products falling under SUBTEL’s regulations must provide the necessary product details and certifications accessible via the QR code.

The SUBTEL QR code regulation will take effect starting February 22, 2026. All products distributed in Chile after this date must comply with the QR code requirement, including providing a public compliance webpage linked from the product’s QR code.

The public compliance page, accessible via the QR code, must display:

  • Product model name and details

  • Regulatory body approval (SUBTEL certification)

  • Manufacturer and local representative details (including RUT number)

  • Product specifications and data sheet

  • Test reports compliant to the Chilean regulations.

The page must be easily accessible and provide all necessary data to ensure transparency for regulators and consumers.

Yes, a single QR code can cover multiple product models for the same manufacturer. There must be a search function present for users to enter the model number and easily find the information for that specific product.

Products that fail to meet SUBTEL’s QR code requirements could face serious consequences, including:

  • Market recall or withdrawal from sale

  • Fines or penalties imposed by regulatory authorities

  • Inability to clear customs or enter the Chilean market

  • Reputational damage to the manufacturer and its distributors

It is crucial for manufacturers to ensure compliance with these regulations to avoid delays, penalties, and customer trust issues.
